LA HERRADURA CASTLE
It was built in the mid 18th century in La Herradura inlet, a strategic place to protect the mouth of the Rio Jate. This river was a watrey point and provided an easy acces to inland villages. The situation of the castle made possible repelling attacks from the sea and prevent possible landings on the beach.
Charles III of Spain ordered its construction and it was designed to house a four guns battery.
