SAN MIGUEL CASTLE
It was built in the Phoenician era. There are remains confirming that was later a Roman fort. This fortress-castle has ben witness of momentous events in the History of Almuñécar that are shown in the Archeological Museum. During the Arab domination this fortress was a key to the arrival af Abderraman I, also to the Revelion of Omar Ben Hafsun. This castle was also a palace of some Sultans.
After the capitulation of 1489, this castle became part of the Christian Kingdom.
